ESM 280

The ESM 280 is RENK’s next-generation transmission system for medium to heavy wheeled armored vehicles up to 620 kW. Based on the combat-proven ESM 350 range pack, it brings our expertise with main battle tank technology into wheeled platforms, combining maximum performance with exceptional durability under extreme operational conditions.
Unlike conventional commercial transmissions, the ESM 280 was purpose-built for military requirements. An electronically controlled multi-disc launch clutch replaces the traditional torque converter, enabling optimized oil cooling, superior thermal stability, and sustained performance even in the harshest environments.
With eight forward and four reverse gears, the transmission enables uninterrupted tractive effort and forward-to-reverse shifts in less than 0.6 seconds. Its total gear ratio of 14.5 ensures high torque at low speeds, outstanding off-road mobility, and superior vehicle performance in demanding terrain.
Despite its high-performance capabilities, the ESM 280 features a compact design with a weight of approximately 550 kg, allowing seamless integration into existing vehicle platforms without structural modifications to the hull or chassis.
